The Holy Theophany Of Our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ In the Eastern Orthodox Church

The holiday season in the Eastern Orthodox Church ends with the great feast of Epiphany or Holy Theophania (God appears). This holy feast ran Christmas -our Lord's Holy Nativity in great spiritual importance. The faithful appreciate the customs of Holy Theophania (Theophany), especially holy water. The events are remembered on three separate days: January 5, Eve of Theophnaia (which is called the "Lesser Blessing of the Water"); the "Greater Blessing of the Water"); and January 7, Feast Day commemorating St. John the Baptist.

St. Gregory of Nazianzus wrote the following in the fourth century in regards to our Lord's Holy Theophany:

"The holy days of lights, to which we have come and which we are celebrating today, has for its origin the baptism of my Christ, the true Life coming into the world, and effects my purification...It is a season of new birth: let us be born again! We duly celebrated at His birth-I, this feast, and you, and all that is in the world and above the world. With the star we ran, with the magi we worshiped, with the shepherds we were with ... we glorified Him, with Simeon we took him up in his arms, and with the chaste and aged Anna we made our responsive confession...Now we come to another mystery...The Spirit bears witness to His Godhead, for he descends upon one that is like Him, as does the voice from heaven...Let us ve Christ.

May you all indeed behold a Holy Feast of our Lord's Holy Theophany, and be spiritually manifested of our Loving-God,

Peace to your soul!

Humbly In Christ Our Lord,
